Lighting Plan

During shooting the film See the light, I plan to focus mainly on the lighting and its colour science the theme is focused on light as seen in the title. Light is used to express Aria’s mind, showing her emotions while also serving as a symbol for self discovery, hope and a new found passion for Aria’s art.

During the beginning of the movie dimmer, neutral light is utilises to showcase Aria’s emotional state of depression and hopelessness as she struggles finding her muse. This is why most scenes are going to be filmed in the evening or at night to emphasise the darkness in Aria’s life as she is isolated from the world. Moreover, the scene where she is looking at her failed attempts of photographs, using a desk lamp which has a warmer yellow tone, I will try to create a melancholic dreamlike mood.

The scenes in the theatre should contrast with the beginning scenes so I will rely on the Front of House lights and overhead lights to illuminate the stage, setting them to a strong bright lighting to represent hope and self discovery.

In the final shot of Aria reacting to the ballet, I want to create a dramatic contrast of her depression as well as her new found hope. This is why I will start with deep blue FOH lights focusing on Aria, the blue being the key light positioned from the front. This deep blue colour will slowly fade within approximately 10 seconds into a bright, warmer white light to show her knew found passion, leaving her depression behind.
